About Us
Gweek Quay Boatyard then and now...
Gweek Quay is a traditional Cornish boatyard based at the upper reaches of the beautiful Helford River.
Gweek has been a trading port since Phoenician times. The quayside is steeped in maritime history. During the middle ages it became the trading port for Helston. The quay would have been a bustling area with local punts ferrying cargos from trading vessels moored in deeper water. At the peak of the area's mining trade Gweek Quay would have seen great numbers of vessel movements shipping timber and coal into the area and tin and copper out.
Gweek Quay was also an import port for another succesful local industry with several privateers vessels being registered to here in the 1700's.
Nowadays the heavy industry has gone from the area but the quayside remains thriving.
Gweek Quay Boatyard, now owned by husband and wife team Clive and Gillian Emerson, has seen the quayside develop into a substantial business serving both leisure boaters and the local fishing community.
The owners' interest and knowledge of classic boats has seen the yard develop a reputation for restoration and repairs of traditional and classic craft as well as modern vessels.
